The Pointer / Power Pulley converts the abstract language of angles into clear reality. You specify the angle and the speed using simple commands, and the pointer performs the motion. With the addition of gears or pulleys, it's a great way to teach about ratios and simple machines. With a flash light or laser module (not included), students see the reality of sine, cosine and other trig functions. The pointer is precise to within 1 degree, has a max speed of over 45 degrees/second (7.5 rpm), and is strong enough to provide 100 oz-in of torque. The pointer can be operated with a TI-83/84 family calculator and either a CBL2 or LabPro, as shown, but it also comes with an adapter and software to allow its operation from a computer using Vernier's SensorDAQ interface.
