Servo
Pointer
Students
design and test dynamic mathematical functions to control the position
of the Servo Pointer. The
free-form functions are virtually unlimited in scope and can be
used to control either the angular position, a,
of the pointer (in degrees or radians) or the linear position, x,
of a laser dot on a wall, a meter stick or another flat target.
Unlike the Pointer / Power Pulley below, motion of the Servo Pointer
is restricted to a range from about -80° to +80°, but it
provides a more convenient and less expensive system that is well
suited to most demonstrations and student activities.
