The SAM (Science And Math) robot is able to move forward and back and pivot left or right--all with the high precision characteristic of stepper motors and all under the easy-to-program command. The robot can be operated with a TI-83 or TI-84 calculator (including plus or silver edition) and either an Original CBL or a CBL2 (not included). With Vernier's LabPro or National Instrument's USB-6008 interface, the robot can also be controlled from a computer using LabVIEW software. The basic robot serves as a platform, which can be expanded for a wide variety of additional activities. The many sensors available from Vernier and other sources be used to let SAM explore and respond to its environment. Up to 4 "servo motors"--available at many hobby stores--can also be added to activate arms or other devices. Students don't just learn about math and science--they learn to use math and science in activities that are fun, challenging and realistic. |
