Step 6A -- Add the Phone Jack

These alternate instruction are to prepare a "CBL2 board" for use with the original CBL. If that is not your plan, click here to return to the primary instructions.

The cable from the CBL uses a 6-conductor phone wire, so we can use a phone jack to make our connection with the board. (Most house phone jacks in the US have 6 positions, but only 4 conductors (6P4C). Be careful if you try to substitute parts purchased locally that you are using 6P6C components.)

Feed the wires trough the large holes as shown to provide mechanical protection. Solder joints provide good electrical connections, but they should not be expected to provide strain relief as well.

One at a time, solder the wires in the positions shown. Carefully trim each wire, and make sure there are no solder bridges. The table below shows the color pattern as viewed from the top of the board.
